Our land is as wild as it is generous; rich in history and traditions, all to be experienced and discovered. The Nicolaus Club Bagamoyo Resort organises excursions along the coast or inland. Corigliano and Patire, gulet trips to the Lakes of Sibari, tours to Byzantine Rossano with typical dinner, Morano and Civita, Rocca Imperiale and the fascinating Matera: the ‘city of stones’.

Caique at the lakes of Sibari
Half a day in a caique leaving the lakes of Sibari, sailing north for about 1 hour and 30 minutes with stops for a swim and to admire the Parco Pollino National Park from the sea, with the suggestive photo shoot that nature holds in store for us. On the afternoon outings, if you are lucky, you can admire the dolphins. Aperitifs at sunset to taste local specialities and excellent DOC wines, a stop for a swim and return to the port.

Morano and Civita
Morano Calabro, a village built like a pyramid on a hill facing Mount Pollino. It developed around a small fortress whose ruins are now identified with the Swabian Norman Castle. Visit the Church of the Maddalena, the cloister of the Convent of San Bernardino and the Nibbio Naturalistic Museum, which recreates the environment and nature of the Pollino National Park. Civita, a small village of about 1,000 inhabitants nestled in the heart of the Pollino, in a panoramic position overlooking the spectacular Raganello gorges (a 13 km canyon). The village is of Albanian origin (Arbëreshë) and was founded in the second half of the 1400s by groups of Albanian families fleeing the Turks. Arrival at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, of great religious, cultural and artistic importance. The Byzantine liturgy in Greek and Albanian is still celebrated here.

Byzantine Rossano
Meet your guide at the ‘Giorgio Amarelli’ Liquorice Museum and the adjoining factory for a guided tour. Inside you will breathe the history of a family business handed down from the 18th century to the present day. At the end, you will head towards the historic centre of Rossano along the panoramic road that offers a wonderful view of the entire plain of Sibari. Next, we enter the Diocesan and Codex Museum to admire the precious Gospel Book: the Codex Purpureo. This is the world’s oldest illustrated Gospel Book, a UNESCO heritage site. The excursion ends with a typical dinner.
